So can you lock and unlock the catch, the catch can be turned, but it doesn't release the boot lid? Or is it the lock barrel that's bust?

Offered as a last hope, my 85MY had a small hole drilled in the body, (by a very previous owner), 3 cm to the right of the boot lock, to use a rod and release the catch. Presumably it worked as that's the only damage. The hole had a rubber bung in it, not too secure, so I replaced it with a small domed coach bolt. Best of luck, don't sue me if it does not work. Jeff.

Try pushing down on the boot lid while trying to turn the lock - takes a little load off the release mechanism.
