I saw these contrasting panel swaps somewhere ...

For future reference, the above work was done by David Reid - https://cartrim.webs.com/apps/photos/al ... d=14464707. He replaced my carpets, and at some point will be re-doing my interior as well.

Zooming in on your side bolsters I reckon the link below would repair them quite well with patience. It's what I used with some success on my centre console that was badly chewed in places.

https://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/heavy-filler

I'm sure Woolies (which some seem to prefer) offer something similar.

Once I re-coloured after filling the repair was pretty much invisible.

Feeling it might be time to stop soon with the black highlights. All are reversible / interchangeable though very easily, so I can mix and match as the feeling takes.

Been holding back on posting anything about this little winter project until I was confident I could avoid it looking like a dogs dinner - After it had been eaten....

I never did like the centre console storage thingy. Hardly deep enough to hold a credit card, and once the leather lid is raised, it's very plasticy with a naff bit of string to stop the hinge breaking.

So I searched around and came by this :

Still some work to complete before I share the results, but so far, so good.

This is going to be interesting. Looking forwards to seeing how it turns out.

Not sure black centre panels would work. I think Tony has struck a good colour balance with what has already been done.

Re-reading this thread I was thinking about the wooden dash trim panel. It has always looked a bit too decorative to me (as well as being expensive to replace) and I was wondering if it would look better coloured black to match the rest of the dash? Of course it was the fashion back in the 80s and 90s to keep a bit of timber in cars and I wouldn’t try it unless the panel already needed replacement.

Just musing!

Tony - don't know if you have repaired your side bolsters yet but I repaired a rip in mine using Furniture Clinic filler. see link below. Might help.

A bit like this Richard?

Another bit of "work in progress", Its a black wood, on a new MDF back board. It's not as black in the photo as it looks in real life though.
The brakes are on this little project though whilst I work out how to finish it. The black disc in the foreground has a few coats of yacht varnish applied and it's gone jet black. Not sure that's quite what I want, so still dabbling. I'd at least still like to see some of the wood grain.

Phil, I see you did that 3 years ago. How's it standing up to wear and tear?

As it happens I placed a quite large order with FC just yesterday, Swatch sent for colour matching though, so will be awhile before the stuff arrives.

It still looks the same as when I did it. When I've been at car shows on hot summer days the bolster has got very hot. On the other hand, my car lives on the drive so must go below freezing at times. So it responds well to extremes of temperature with no sign of cracking. I tend to drive with the seat well forward which increases the contact with the bolster as I get in and out so I am now in the habit of pushing the seat back before I get out to reduce contact.
Cheers, Phil

A couple of pieces need to be remade as I can do better, but overall, pretty pleased.
( Hope it's in the right place when fitted to car i.e., not toooooo far back and more use to rear passengers :)

That will be nice with those vents blowing!. Is your plan to be able to rest your arm on it? That would be lovely.

Pete - are you giving Tony some more work to do in fabricating ducts to run to the back now! If he aims them down they would help dry out the carpet as well......

Nice going Tony - project creep for the weekend :D :D
