Speedometer
On my 1988 Excel SE the speedometer has developed a fault
It records the speed but not the miles covered
Has anybody swapped out the speedometer?
If so any tips etc?
Thanks

Re: Speedometer
I had mine repaired by JDO.
I have a feeling in my waters that your snag is a simple fix. And discussed in the threads. Start searching.
Replacement is easy.
Dash Fasia cover out . drop the steering on its lowest setting Dash out feed the cable to give you slack or hand up from below and release the cable. Even easier on an SA because of the Cruise control pick up disconnects the speedo externally.

Re: Speedometer
As Stu says above. It's easier to get it fixed. They did a great job on mine - very good service http://www.jdo1.com/
Cheers, Phil

Re: Speedometer
If you have got fingers like sausage rolls and have not got a delicate touch, dont try this. But its an easy fix, getting to the easy fix though is hard. Remove the speedo and then take the mechanism out of the speedo case, this is the hard bit, the bezel and glass needs removing by prizing the thin metal surround away from the body with a watchmakers screwdriver, its very easy to make a mess here, then take the mechanism out of the case. If you look at the photo you will see a slotted hole with a screw in it, this engages the trip meter, it just needs adjusting until it meshes properly.
Reassembly needs the bexel pressing very very carefully back into place. Its easy to make a mess. The one I did looks good but it took alot of patience.

Re: Speedometer
This is edge that needs easing out to get the bezel off. The screwdriver in the shot is for pointing I used a much smaller one for easing it up.

Re: Speedometer
Well the speedo is out and will be off to be repaired and serviced tomorrow
I did think about doing the repair myself, but I am reasonably certain I would have crack the lens knowing my luck
