The brake fluid reservoir on my 1990 excel appears to be leaking from the forward blank fluid take off, its only weeping but very annoying. Can it be repaired? if not can I substitute it for one from a defender master cylinder?

What do you mean by blank fluid take off? Can't quite picture it!

If it’s the plastic reservoir spigot you’re referring to. The reservoir can be removed from the master cylinder - held on by two roll pins. Could probably weld it or seal with something.
As a temporary measure you could maybe use some cable shrink tubing, the type that has an adhesive lining.

My 86 car hasnt got the spigots so its probably not the original (preparing to get shot down here) and the additional outlets are usually there if the reservior is used for the clutch as well, its probably been knocked. I would take it off and find exactly where its leaking and try and use the correct glue (?) to seal it after cleaning. It can't make it any worse and see if the problem remains before using the car. Ultimately its a safety critical part though so its your choice.

Not sure what roll pins are being referred to above, my reservoir is a push fit into the grommets that sit in the top of the master cylinder. A while ago these grommets perished and I replaced them. I suspect that may be the source of the leak here, and the only reason it appears on the blanked take off is because that’s the lowest point…..so yes cleaning it all up and finding out exactly where the leak is originating would be a good first step.

SO when you pushed the reservoir back did you get it all the way back in, how far above the metal seat does it sit?

I'm not aware of it ever having been removed!
