Brake Shims

Post by Jason.goad »

Hello. I could do with replacing the anti-squeal shims on ther brake calipers.
Brakes international seem to be out of stock and don't bother answering emails.
SJ have the fronts, but want £45 for the rears.
Has anyone else found an alternative?
Thanks
Jason

Try one of the anti-squeal pastes that are available these days.

Just seen that land rover discos have the same or similar caliper advertised but not confirmed.

Hello Pete. It's not as they are squealing. It's more of a case of them falling apart.
Always thought it was such a fiddly over complicated arrangement on the Excel.

Just searched SJ site on "Brake Shim" and top hit is A089J8076S - Shims on back of Rear Brake pad. - £15.12 inc VAT.
I know postage can take a hit, but hopefully not £30 now :D

Looking in parts list though, I can't find that number - but then the anti squeal shim is only reference as part of a full pad spring set. Seems like a call would be needed.

Meant to add that neither front or rear of my car had any shims between the pad and piston.
Was not a problem before my overhaul. We'll see if they start squealing now they are free to slide and work properly

Is the squeal likely to be the wheel cylinder?
