Tyres -again
Need a couple of tyres to fit my Excel SE and to replace the Nankang **** on the rear
205/50/15 are slightly smaller and 205/55/15 slightly bigger? Wrong time of year for £140 each Dunlops I'm afraid!
So put the 205/50/15's on the front and put the good old Goodyear NCT's 215/50/15 on the back i guess?
Go for Toyo T1-R as had excellent grip / results with these on my Elise.
Any one used BF Goodrich in the 205/50/15 size ?

Excuse my ignorance - but as someone who has never messed about with tyre sizes and is slowly becoming educated through reading posts on this site -if you have slightly different sizes on the front compared to the back what spare do you go for
Cheers, Phil

I'd go for the narrower spare (205/15) as you can guarantee that there will be no rubbing on inner guards with these fitted on front (seems to afflict some Excels with 225/15 fitted, like mine).
This thread prompts me to ask, how much wear do people get from their tyres. I'm looking at two, maybe four new ones after only 10,000 miles. (Toyo proxes). Is this normal? Rears seem to wear worst on outer edge. How critical is that rear toe-in I wonder? I certainly don't work the car hard. Might be worth spending a bit extra to get it all properly set up....if I can find someone trustworthy to do it.

And I still swear by SP9000s - under £100 a corner from tyretraders.com (where Ozzy gets his Toyos) - in the correct size too.

Hi Angus
How are you?
I swear by the Falkens and the slightly smaller size does not effect the handling

i was at a set of lights the other day with a seat leon cupra R who was being a pain, just let the clutch go at 4500 rpm and had almost no wheel spin and nearly broke my neck as i got through 1st and 2nd gear in about a second!! :S was rather shocked at the level of grip!!
needless to say i didnt see that leon again
The only time i have had the back end step out on me was in terrential rain, and i took a round about abit quick...
still think the R888's are amazing..

Re: Tyres -again
Hi all,
Does anyone know what the impact of fitting 215/45 15 tyres would be - presumably the speedo will over read - but will it mess up the handling?
Cheers, Mat.

Re: Tyres -again
the ride will be much harsher due to the increased stiffness of the shallower sidewall (and i think this will also make it oversteer more) personally i use 205 50 15 T1-R's and cant fault them, and they have a nicer ride and better grip than the O.E. goodyears... and there much! cheaper...
