A shame this one hasn't been garaged. Hopefully, someone will rescue it & report back to the forum.

Shame about that paint job. Since it seems to be peeling off, there's no short-cut but to do a proper strip and re-paint. The way the paint colour changes under the bonnet would really bother me too. The buyer will probably have to spend more on that than they do buying the car. Still, for someone who wants to do a thorough job, it could be the basis of a lovely finished product. Alternatively, for someone who wants a car they can just buy and drive it looks like it won't take much to get it on the road, could be a cheap way into Lotus ownership and a do-it-up-as-you-go approach (as I have been for the last 12 years!).

The yellow project Excel one went for £3,500 with just one bid, which seems like a lot of money compared to the blue 1985 Excel that just finished on ebay tonight at £4,386. The blue one has bad paint too (although not as bad as the yellow one). It had an MOT & quite a few new bits (carpets & an exhaust, for example) & I think I'd be quite pleased with myself if I'd just paid £4,386 for it. I bet it smells a lot better inside than the yellow one too.
