Redex Upper Cylinder Lubricant

Post by dpr59 »

Can anyone on here remeber recommending Redex and Frost auto some time ago....

It was probably on the .co.uk forum.

It had come from a Lotus specialist recommendation.

The reason I ask.

I got into a conversation over petrol and addative.

I use;

1. Optimax + Redex
2 Tesco 97 + redex
3. 95RON + Redex + Octane improver

The counter argument was that Redex will actual reduce octane as it's light oils will counter the octane rating.

So, don't mix adatives.

I pointed out that the Redex was for UCL to protect the Nicasil.

This chap didn't realise the 2.2 had Nicasil and groaned BWM issues in the 60's & 70's. Saw my point and wished my well on the liner front. An old Elan owner.

Q.

Anyone on here know where I got this UCL thing origanally or got any more input on this.

UK Ultra-low sulphur petrol should have 50ppm maximum sulphur and targets for future sulphur content are 10ppm maximum. http://www.ukpia.com/industry_issues/fu ... iesel.aspx

Well, if I was right all the time I'd get to be predictable!

Top info.

Noticed in Germany this week that they still supply fuel with Benzene content. 92 RON if I remember correctly.

Germany has legislation that limits benzene content of petrol to 1% max and (I think) is lobbying to reduce levels further across Europe. The RON will reduce as benzene (although naturally present from distillation of crude) tends to be added as an anti-knock agent.

The Redex MSDS.

http://www.my-sds.co.uk/ViewDocument.as ... tory=Holts

As no combustion products quoted as suphur containing, the bold assumption would be, none in it to start with.

Where as, the Lucas MSDS does quote oxides of sulphur.
