Ignition Timing Dot

Belts, Plugs, Filters, Fuels, Oils, additives etc..... Told you this might morph into servicing and service items.

Ignition Timing Dot

Post by MetBlue »

I'm in the middle of changing my timing belt ( MY 92 - One of the last cars)

Once the Vee belts were off ( another story and maybe thread later), all very straight forward, but I am puzzled by the timing marks on the Distributor drive.
According to the manual, the dot should be in line with the bolt centres between Crank bolt and pulley belt, but mine are way off. Photo below taken with old belt fitted and before removing any tension, So this is definately how it's been running.

Anyone got a rational explanation?

That picture was supposed to be rotate 90 Deg clockwise.
If you're viewing on a laptop, just stand it on edge. Otherwise try a simplified version of the Lotus position.

It doesn't really matter where the dot is so long as the distributor is moved accordingly.
