Thanks for the thoughts. I'd thought about the Mahle one first but couldn't seem to see it available anywhere when searching online :?

Maybe I need up up my searching game, or switch from Bing!

I've just ordered another Mann W920/21. Mann actually list them for the Excel / Esprit. I've been using them for several years and had no issues, oil pressure rises more quickly than previous Fram / PNM / SJ filters.

It has an anti-drain back valve:

The only difference from the W916/1 appears to be that the bypass valve opens at 0.8 bar rather than 0.9 bar. Lower has got to be better I would have thought, keeping the oil flowing, even if something catastrophic must have happened to block the filter?

It has one anti-drain valve but does not have the clean-side anti-drain valve. crs_20 tried one and found the slow oil pressure problem with it here:

Yeah, I'd read previously that the 920 took time to build up pressure, whereas people had said the 916 was building it up quickly. Looks like it's a case of YMMV, but I might give the 916 a try and see how it goes on my Eclat :)

I was heartened to hear about the Mahle OC141. I have been using these high quality filters for years but have been using the OC23.
All attempts to source anOC141 have been to no avail. I contacted Mahle but as yet no reply. In the meantime I contacted Opie Oils and received the reply (very promptly) that Mahle have discontinued the OC141.
Does anyone have a reference for a Mahle filter with the 'clean side' valve suitable for the Excel family?
