Leak

Post by amarshall »

B*lls. I might not make to the NEC because of this.

Just had someone chase me home to tell me that petrol was pouring out of the car. He wasn't wrong. Nice big puddle of it under the offside rear.

I'm just hoping it's something worked loose after the last service (fuel filter was changed) rather than anything more serious.

B*GG*R! I don't have time to deal with this.

I found replacing the fuel filter difficult.
It wasn't replacing the filter itself, but getting the rubber gasket, between the bowl and the top, in the right place is very difficult to see.
I ended up disconnecting the filter from the fuel pipes, taking the filter out of the car, re-fitting the bowl with the rubber gasket now in the right place, then re-assembling everything.
It took me quite a few hours of faffing around whilst attempting to do this with the filter attached in the car, and every time I switched the ignition on I had fuel leaking all around the battery. Great Fun!

I have a suspicion it may be a similar problem. Fortunately, I have a complete filter assembly in the big box of things I'll never need. Just hope the mice haven't got to it between the parts sale and now.

As far as I can see it must be pump/filter/pipe related since there's no obvious leak when the ignition circuit is off.

I also had the same problem and then found it easier than I expected to remove the whole thing from the car.

To be honest it's such a hassle getting that seal in the right place that I bought the complete filter for next time.

Mark.

Phew! Inlet hose to the filter had come off the metal nipple that sits in the end. Took the opportunity to fit my "new" spare filter housing whilst I was in there. Seems to be leak-free so far, but a salutary note - check those hose fittings chaps.

Glad you got it sorted Angus.
Have fun at the show everyone - I'm afraid I'm out of the country so won't get to see you :(
Next year I might even drive there in the Excel!
