Fog Light alternatives

For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Fog Light alternatives

Post by rs blu »

Hi, unfortunately I do not have the fog light in my car. The problem is that hella does not produce them anymore and from SJ they are no longer avaible
There are similar fog lights from the hella but no one has the fixing screw behind ,everyone have the screw on the top of the case and they can only suspend. Also the fog from Ford and WW have not the support behind the case.
I found a new Bosch Pilot but i think it is too much longer. The original hella is 170mm long and the new bosh pilot is 177mm long but they have the support behind the case.Does someone knows if they can be fine?
Does anyone knows if there are some alternative lights?

The extra 7mm width shouldn't be a problem.

The depth of the mount looks more difficult. The originals have quite a long threaded "tube" which the wires go through. I'll see if I can find an old one at home and measure it for you.

If you just need a single reflector and lens assembly, there's one on ebay at the moment, from a Polish seller. It's listed for VW Scirocco.

If you can send me the measurements, even the depth of the case lamp you make me a great pleasure.I know only the width
If someone has 2 lamps case please let me know

Are both your fogs missing or just the lens part?

Unfortunately they are both missing. :(
I just found 2 hella 8336r19 from an Alfa Romeo in good condition but with the wrong case. I think tomorrow I could call lotus bit to ask if they have 2 correct used case.

Keep your eye out for some VW Scirocco lights of the same era. Same part IIRC

I forgot to measure the total depth (front to back), but here's what I managed to scribble down this morning. I think the biggest problem with the Bosch alternatives is the length of the mounting bolt on the rear. If you can extend that, I think they'll fit in quite well.

I can add any other dimensions needed tonight/tomorrow.

The correct part number Hella foglights come up for sale reasonably regularly on the ebay.de site.
I bought a NOS (new old stock) fog light aftermarket kit for some 1980s car .
The kit contains the exact fog lights we use, it has some mounting parts, wiring, a rely and switch.

All I can suggest is you search the german ebay site.

Just to hijack into this thread.

With the original fog light, one of mine has gone limp ( Uh er Captain). Is there a means to tighten the back swivel?

if you have small hands, you can just reach the pivot through the hole under the pods you use to get to the manual wind up knob.
I REALISED YOU CANT LIVE WITHOUT A LOTUS!!! Until now
