Rev counter

Hi,

I've tried to solve this issue before but never been successful. The rev counter has never worked (not for 20 years). So the questions I have are;

1. How can I test if its the rev counter itself that's at fault (other than buying a new one)
2. Could it be something else like the rev limiter, if so how can I test if the rev limiter is faulty.

Is there anything else that could be causing this, other than wiring, if so what could I test and how. I am not sure if anything other the rev counter or the wiring would stop it working.

Thanks

I would remove the tacho from the dash and then jump it to the relevant source feeds.

This will eliminate the cars wiring.

There are 3 connector breaks in the circuit at least

12v goes to +
earth to the -
ignition coil negative goes to 1 (white / slate - ws wire)

After a little detective work I got the rev counter working. The rev limiter was the cause. SJ says they dont make them anymore, I found a second hand one on ebay so Ill see if that works. Could anyone suggest an after market modern alternative.

I got an Omex - I think a few others on here also went for the Omex. Has worked faultlessly since I got it. Easy to fit. Some people put it under the dash.
