Engine bay wiring loom location

Hi Chaps,

I'm really stuck at the moment and need a bit of help.
I'm restoring my Excel and in the process of putting everything back into the bodyshell.
There are 4 cables that run from the engine bay into the interior, they go through the fibreglass via rubber grommets, the cables are,

1, Red positive cable
2, Black negative cable
3, Main engine bay wiring loom that connects to everything in the engine bay
4, ?

The problem is I can't find cable 4 in the parts I removed, it was there!
I did take pictures before strip down, but its hidden behind the other cables, so I can't really see it or work out where it goes. I can't find any pictures on the internet either.

Please could someone tell me what the cable goes to in the engine bay? It's the furthest away cable looking from the front of the car, in the smaller grommet.

It's a 1986 excel with the later type dashboard.

Thanks,
Dave

Ok so my SA is like this:

1, Red positive cable
2, Black negative cable
3, Main engine bay wiring loom that connects to everything in the engine bay

4, loom to gearbox. This includes the SA auto park lock but may be just your reverse switch

That's great, thank you very much.

I can now make up a cable with a couple of spade connectors on and feed that through to the interior. I'll worry about the connector plug when I fit the main wiring loom back in and can see after everything is connected which connector plug has nothing connected to it, then connect it to that with a suitable plug.

After I've done all that the original cable will turn up!! Even though I have already been through all the Lotus stuff at least five times!

Why is your engine bay empty? Are you doing a restoration?

Cheers.

Please note main is an SA so maybe completely wrong.

You are right with it going to the gearbox, it would make sense to have a separate cable going to that.

I've fitted the main wiring loom back inside the car and paired up all the connector plugs, there is one left, a 4 pin flat connector, 2 of the wire colours are Green and Green/brown. Looking at the wiring diagram for the reverse switch the wiring colours are the same. Thanks again.

I know what you mean about doing jobs on the car, are you going to overhaul the steering rack yourself?
