Gear stick thread
Just tried to fit a new knob on the gear stick and now I notice someone has made a real mess of the threads, should it be M10? or is it something else (guessing it is a metric thread and not UNF!). I think it will be fine once I have run a die down it and re-cut the damaged section
Of all the things I have lost I think I miss my mind the most...

failing that, grab a bolt which you think is the same and try if you can mate up the threads without rocking

close, but no cigar: 1mm pitch does not equal 24 tpi

Re: Gear stick thread
sorry, but don't think it's me. They show up here on 2 separate devices. Maybe your browser can't cope with a http instead of a https adres?

Re: Gear stick thread
I think it might be the forum software as I can't see the images either, but if I copy the image link and paste into a new tab (same browser) I can.

Re: Gear stick thread
Images are not showing for me either.
Watch the thread though. 1.25 pitch on M12 is a fine thread. Most dies will be M12 X 1.75 mm.

You are viewing the images as cache items on your computer. External viewers cant see them unless hosted by a third party photo site.
The hyper link to the web site does take the viewer to the image site though.

Re: Gear stick thread
I already have a set! but the thread is quiet mashed so difficult to use it! The mind boggles as to how the damage was achieved..Marten wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 22:42Invest in a threadgage.Zaphod wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 20:19Just tried to fit a new knob on the gear stick and now I notice someone has made a real mess of the threads, should it be M10? or is it something else (guessing it is a metric thread and not UNF!). Re: Gear stick thread
Mines butchers as well. I think people replace the gear knob and only find the thread is not the same after they've started forcing on the wrong thread. Then maybe they work out what thread their new knob needs and run this die down, butchering the original.
Unless you buy something specifically off the net, few people will have access to the M12 fine thread dies.
