Gearbox Fluid

I am finding on my 1990se Excel it is not smooth when I select all the Forward Gears and harder for Reverse. Non actually Crunch so the Clutch must be Disengaging.
I recently replaced both the Master Cylinder and the Slave. So I know the System has had New Fluid and been Bleed properly.
I was wondering if the Fluid in the Gearbox needs changing.
So on that note can someone tell me. What's the best Fluid to use?

75w/90 is listed in the book.
Has the gear lever housing been inspected for debris?

Id agree with Stu. The nylon cup at the base of the gearstick disintegrates but it can be sorted from inside the car. Take the centre trim out and then undo the rubber cone under it you will find the gearstick is held in with 4 10mm bolts. Lift the stick out and see if the cups in one piece, it probably is in lots of small bits. I had to make mine but you can buy them now from the usual suspects, the new one just drops in. Also check the nylon bit on the end of the gearstick where it goes into the selector.
Cost of both about £15

Thanks Bash. That one is going for MOT Monday so will check out what you suggest next week after that's been done.
Then get the new parts.

Hi, passed the MOT no problem. took the Gear Lever out today. All looks fine.
So now going to replace the Oil in the Gearbox.
Have ordered 5lts of Comma SX75W-90 (GL5) Oil to change it.
I think it only takes 2.5lts but 5lts was cheaper than 3lts.

Good result on the stick, an oil change is always worthwhile.
