Torque settings - airbox nuts?

Post by tezzan »

I've been trying to fix my alternator that appears to have died and so i removed the airbox to be able to get to it. Now trying to refit stuff.

Does anyone know the torque settings for the eight 10mm nuts that hold the airbox in place? I can't find any info in the service notes - am I missing something?

For that matter, any idea what the torque settings are for the alernator mounting/adjusting bolts/nuts?

Try fastener websites for torque setting if you don't find anything

My car has Nylock nuts and don't need to be over tight.
I just put an 8mm socket on a 1/4 " UJ, then a screw driver handle drive. Being Nylock, hand tight is plenty.

Thanks for the replies on this one guys, both helpful.

I also looked a bit more carefullly at the service guide and I noticed that the Torque Loading section has a couple of catch-alls:

"All other 6mm nuts or setscrews 1.0-1.1 kg/m 7-8 lb/ft"
and
"Studs - All other non-specified 8mm studs 1.7 kg/m 12lb/ft"

So as the airbox nuts are M6 and the alternator nuts/bolts are M8 I can use these numbers. Which is similar to those speciified on Grampian's site. And if you look up "What is the approximate torque loading of a screwdriver grip" it suggests 10Nm (7-8 lb/ft).

Cheers

That's really giving it some!
