Anybody have a spare post-89 carb body (or whole carb)? It looks like I need one.

They look to be the right part?
$336 US. Shipped to me assuming no one else bids on them.
Perhaps the club could pay to ship it to you and buy the other one as a spare for the next unfortunate soul?
I can broker the deal if this makes fiscal sense. Let me know.
Shipping probably isn't cheap since they have some mass to them.

Re: DHLA 45D body
Hmm, not sure. DHLA45s and DHLA45Ds aren't quite the same and I don't know how different (if at all) the bodies are on the 45Ds to accommodate the extra jets.
That said, if someone with an earlier car could benefit from them, we could certainly do what you suggest.

That could work nicely as an alternative. My own carb. is in hospital at the moment. Can you hang on to yours until I know the diagnosis, please?El torro wrote:I have a spare 45e body

Re: DHLA 45D body
The 45D & 45E are very different, and it's not just a matter of doing something to an E to make it accommodate the D's Power Jet.
The D is more of an emissions carb. Older DHLAs all had two circuits, Idle & Main. The D split the work load up over three circuits by adding the Power Jet. That allowed the midrange "Main" circuit to be tuned leaner to meet more strict emissions standards, then the Power Jet came in to take care of full throttle operation.
If you go with 45E, then buy a pair and go with the Spec 9 set-up. Or stay with two Spec 10 45D carbs. But don't try to mix two different carbs... one 45D and one 45E. Engines don't do "split personalities" very well, so pick one and stick with it.
The DHLA 45, 45C & 45E are all old-school two-circuit carbs.
The 45D, P & M are all three circuit, Power Jet, 'emissions' carbs. The M also being sealed for blow-through turbocharging.
Regards,
Tim Engel

Re: DHLA 45D body
Angus,
Good to hear you are now a happy man.
As someone with a similar problem, can you say what was done and give an approximate cost?
Thanks,
Tony

Re: DHLA 45D body
On closer inspection, it isn't a 45D anyway. It's a 45P!

Re: DHLA 45D body
45 D = Lotus OE for Excel SE & Esprit S3 HC.
45 P = Lotus OE Excel SA with 912HC & automatic trans.
Both are 3-Circuit Power Jet DHLAs with 5 progression holes.

Tim Engel
