Lotus Elite/Eclat Riviera Bonnet

Post by Don’t Be Foolish »

I realise that this is a very long shot but I was wondering if anyone had an unwanted Riviera bonnet lying around in the garage, in between the boxes of hens’ teeth and rocking horse poo! Any help locating one would be greatly appreciated.

Good evening Hawaiis0

Thanks very much for your comment on my previous post. I’ve had similar pleas up on the Lotus Forum and Pistonheads since the beginning of January and despite well over 100 views, yours is the first reply I’ve had (I even had my hopes up for a second :D )

Have you tried our usual breakers - Lotus bits and lotuselan17. We also have Bauke Tocus in Holland(?) - might get slapped for that one, who loves Rivieras. Stu

I messaged Bauke via the Lotus Forum and lotuselan17 via eBay but both were unable to help.

Mike at Lotusbits was very helpful as always and although he didn’t have a second hand one in stock for sale, he did work out a quote to make one brand new from a mould taken of a bonnet from a customer’s car.

Unfortunately, the cost of making a one off item was likely to be around £3,000 and no matter how much I love the design, there’s no way I could justify spending that much (or, more importantly, hide it from my wife  )

I might be able to help here....
There is a batch being produced in carbon fibre.
I can enquire as to the breakdown cost for adding another to the production.

Good evening Fueltheburn, thanks very much indeed for your reply. If you could find out the cost of a bonnet in carbon fibre it would be very much appreciated.

Good evening Fueltheburn,

I'm really sorry for bothering you again but I was wondering if you have received any update as to whether it would be possible to manufacture an extra Riviera bonnet in carbon fibre and if so, at what price?

The reason for me asking is that my car is literally in the middle of a respray and if there was a chance of obtaining a Riviera bonnet it would be brilliant to be able to have it painted and fitted at the same time.

Obviously though, any help that you could provide at any time would still be very much appreciated.

Regards

Bill

Hi. I will try again later today but I can only assume he is offshore currently as I'm not getting any response back from him.
I want him to respond as I need one myself.

Cheers
Kieran

Finally got hold of him. He had been deliberately ignoring me until I shouted loud enough. A lot on his plate.
The bonnet would be in fibreglass not carbon fibre.
He hasn't given me a price yet but he has said the earliest would be mid summer, so by that I would guess July.

If you need an alternative supplier, Smith & Deakin are a long established manufacturer of fibreglass panels close to me (Worcester) and I could enquire as to delivery and cost for creating a Riviera bonnet. However we'd need to let them have an original to make the mould.

Cheers, Richard
