Hi Nigel,
Mine was going to come up for sale in the spring as I thought it would be better timing. I could sell now if you were interested though.

It's a 1987 Blue SE with a quite a few thousand spent on it bringing it up to scratch. Ive owned if for nearly 10 years. All the usual Excel problems have been addressed. The rebuilt engine has only got 3k miles on it. It has 3d mapped ignition which makes it run very well. (Dyno prints available)
I also retrofitted air con which works brilliantly.
There's too much to list really, so if interested please pm me for a chat.
Cheers,
Andy.
(If you search my posts by username there should be some pictures around although they may be a bit old now)

Hi Andy,
Many thanks for your response.
Just had a quick scoot through your car's history and rebuild updates - that must have been great for similar enthusiasts to follow.
Might I ask that you send me a few photos of the car, (if available) a summary of works you have done along with the sort of money you would be looking for to part with your Excel.
Best wishes,
Nigel :D

Hi there, I can see that you are not keen on an SA car, but have you driven one? it might just surprise you how nice a drive it is! and the good bit is I have a restored one for sale that has had a fortune spent on it. If you are at all interested I can let you know what has been done to the car and send photos. The car is in Fife Scotland.
Cheers,
Brian Swankie.
Hi Brian,
Although I haven't driven an Excel auto, I have my heart set on a manual gearbox.
However, if you wouldn't mind, could you send me a few photos of your car and so as to further help me with pricing levels of Excels, how much you would be looking at as a sale price for her.
Many thanks,
Nigel

Hi Tony,
I have seen both of those cars.
The £17k - a cup of coffee one is from a reputable dealer. I would describe it as a good, honest, unmolested vehicle. In my mind, the dealer is asking too much for it and I haven't pursued it any further.
The £10k - a cup of coffee one is a private sale from a really likeable petrol head who has had the car about 18 months. The car has had respray in the not too distant past and the current owner has had carbs sorted, pop up lights overhauled and stuff like that. It has fLsh up to 10 years old then nothing until he bought it which was through a 'classic car auction'. I think there is a potential 'money pit' scenario here so again, haven't taken it any further.
Cheers,
Nigel

Stu,
That is so kind of you - I will bear it in mind.
Only been on this Forum for a matter of days and I can't believe how welcoming and helpful people have been on the topic of Excels. Fantastic!!
Thanks again,

Hello fellow Lotus Excel Owners,

I am extremely pleased to advise that after what seems like an eternity of liaising with a number of you, problems with C19 travel, viewing and similar restrictions - I am now the very proud owner of a '1987 Mediterranean Blue Lotus Excel SE'.

This is the car that has been very well documented in this Forum's pages and has kept Andy Lake busy for many years as his rolling resto. I am very lucky that he kept faith with me over all these months and has entrusted the custodianship of him - Larry Lotus - to me.

I look forward to seeing some of you at car meets and similar as C19 derestriction's hopefully allow us to come out to play in the summer.

Please give me the tip-off if there are any car meets in the London and South-East, North Kent or other areas localish to me.

Happy Owner,

Nigel

Congratulation Nigel on landing you car of choice. I'm sure you'll have many happy years with it (sorry him. Is there any a story around the name do you know?)
With luck, this summer should give us all a good few opportunities for meets.
Tony

Hi Tony,

Regarding the name 'Larry', that is the name Andy's daughters gave the Excel.

No obvious name could be extruded from the registration number so we thought it appropriate to keep the name Larry going.

Didn't want to confuse the car did we?

Would be nice to meet up.

I now want to see as many Excels and their owners to quiz them on all manner of things.

Best wishes,

Nigel

Club Lotus Meet - Late May Bank Holiday Wkd (29th) Castle Coombe. Straight up the boring M4 for you - unless you go scenic.

Be there or we dont ever talk again. :)

Dont need to be a member of CL , there will be a fair few Excels on parade.
