Outdoor car cover

Post by redpepsi31 »

Hi ,
my 1988 Excel arrives next week and needs to be outdoors until a new car port is commissioned.
Can somebody kindly recommend a suitable car cover make/manufacturer for me please.
If a club member has one to sell even better.
Regards
Brent

moltex outdoor (semi tailored) car covers are available through club lotus. to fit an excel you would need the gt size retail £185 with club discount 166.50.

Mine lives out side without a cove, just make sure she is washed and polished regularly, always worried about scratches with a cover trapping small partials like sand ( I do have one just weary abou using). I would probably use one if I lived around a lot of trees though

I've had a canvas taylor-made cover, well more of a sun cap, for many years and never had any problem with it damaging the paintwork.

Alternative here - no experience as mine lives in a garage, but supposed to be quite good and cheaper than CL deal:

Many thanks for the advice.
I've plumped for the Stormforce cover from coveryourcar.co.uk , not just to keep the rain off but bird droppings , tree sap and everything else that gets thrown at you from living in the foothills of Snowdon!

I have had 2 expensive covers. Both lasted about 3 years each before they started to rip. I now use a cheap one from Machine Mart - about £26 I think. It doesn’t claim to be breathable or have UV protective layers but it works fine. I think as long as you don’t strap it to tight to the body work – air can get under the cover and you won’t have any condensation problems – well no more than normal :D

I have the custom tailored TLF covers from specialisedcovers. They are 3 layer breathable moltex ones. I would say, the best is just enough. If you have a generic one, it will with no doubt rub over the clearcoat and after some winters outside you need a new paint. Been there, done twice

Btw: I have cover for a MY89 for sale
