Cam Belt Tension
I am in the process of changing cam belt 1989 Excel SE has anyone any experience of the belt tension gauge which seem to be commonly used now . Data of belt deflection / and load [mm & newton meters] are required ,my manual does not give these required values . Only refers to 90 /95 units ? for using Burroughs Gauge .Thanks

If you've not seen it, there is a good YouTube video for an Excel cambelt change at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPdLNZFE_Ps

Re: Cam Belt Tension
About tension.. I don't trust the "Krikit" type gauge.
I did some human comparisons + repeatability. Conclusion: Very person dependent. Very big spread.
So I came across this site from a certain Mike and he compared the "Draper" or "Laser" type gauge with the "Burroughs".
I measured my original belt and came to the same conclusion.

Nice site I must say, and big thanks to Mike

Re: Cam Belt Tension
If you use the videos linked to DO NOT use the method shown to remove the cam seals - I had to repair the damage done by that screwdriver after I bought that very car.
