Re: Oliver Winterbottom Interview
Good watch.
Really relate to his latter comments about the benefit of CAD over a drawing board - or not. Being a dinosaur who avoided learning AutoCAD, I couldn't agree more. I met many 'designers' once CAD drawing came out who quite simply weren't. They just knew how to drive a software programme well. In my experience, if your not born with a design brain, don't become a design engineer.

Re: Oliver Winterbottom Interview
I'm with you on that Tony. I learned my trade on the board, then AutoCAD and latterly SOLIDWORKS.
Whilst the capability of the software is amazing, a lot of today's designers are software drivers, not Engineers in the true sense.
Unlike Mr Winterbottom who did indeed possess a true design engineer's brain and the fortunate we all are for it.

I tend to agree with you. I remember him telling me that a problem with CAD was that you couldn’t effectively visualise the whole design.

Re: Oliver Winterbottom Interview
One of the reasons I came out of being a design draughtsman was the arrival of computers. But, Adrian Newey still uses an 'analog' drawing board and it hasnt done him any harm.

Ps, Adrians book is a cracking read if you are interested in racing car design.
