Hi.
SO slightly odd moment today. My car has been hidden away during COvid but today Ive arrange an MOT so thought I would drive it around the block to make sure it all seems fine. Key in , heard fuel pump, radio comes on I pump the pedal a couple of times . Turn the key completely dead nothing no buzz no clicking dead. check the battery which has been on trickle charge. 12.6Volts . The LED indicator has gone red. GO back, it fires up straight away.
What could have happened for there to be no sound nothing going to the starter. Just want to go and tighten or clean something. AS I'm typing I can here you say this ,your going to say an Earth connection????
Also with the petrol sitting about for a while do I use it up or top it up?
Cheers
Pete

Battery. Trickle not trickling. Pop your lights and watch to see if they dim on crank.
Second thought - worn ignition barrel. Slightly reduce key pressure next time it happens to see if it fires

As you haven't used it for a while perhaps a sticking relay?
Cheers, Phil

Had the same a couple of weeks ago. Started no problems, turned it off and an hour later nothing when I tried to start it. As suggested above, the relay had failed.

Follow the leads down to the starter, give them a wriggle. worked on mine, hadn't been started in two years.

Re: Didn't want to turn over
I had the same thing last weekend! Turned out to be a dirty / corroded connection to the starter motor. There is a spade connection which goes onto the solenoid from the ignition switch, and the spade connector was quite loose and a bit corroded. I cleaned it up with a needle file and tightened the grip of the spade up slightly with some pliers. Seems OK now (famous last words...).
