We have a club Facebook group
Just set up a new Facebook group for members of this forum/club - look for The Lotus Grand Tourers on Facebook and do join! I’m just beginning to find out how time consuming Facebook can be and some of its features drive me mad.
Cheers, Richard

No good for me. I don't do FB. So you can safely talk about me behind my back!

I've never tried to get a photo on here as members who know what they're doing have trouble, would joining the new group make it simple enough for a total numpty like me to post photos at a click? Jeff.

Facebook picture posting is a click and drop process with no intermediate server required.jeff.fenton wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 11:16I've never tried to get a photo on here as members who know what they're doing have trouble, would joining the new group make it simple enough for a total numpty like me to post photos at a click? Posting on here is actually quite simple - but indirect.
try and find your picture on FB later - now that's a challenge!

I do wonder whats going to happen with this site though. People wont bother looking for information on fb they just ask someone to tell them what they need to know. The pool of info on here is deep and invaluable, the facebook pool is very shallow.

Re: We have a club Facebook group
It won’t be much different to the current situation - forum members who are also on fb tend to use Angus’ elite/eclat/excel Facebook group.
Now that we have our own group we can look at stuff like linkages between fb and the forum. Also we should try to link back to topics on the forum where possible to answer people’s questions - so we steer traffic back here and encourage people to join.
As Jeff and Stu say, many people like the convenience of instantly posting pictures on fb and using it more as a social resource.
Don’t worry - the forum is safe and so is the information in it, and it is the principal asset of the club.
Cheers, Richard

Hi Jeff, jeff.fenton wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 11:16I've never tried to get a photo on here as members who know what they're doing have trouble, would joining the new group make it simple enough for a total numpty like me to post photos at a click? Jeff.
Only if you use Facebook, then from your Facebook app you take pictures and they appear on faceboook.
The problem with pictures on the forum is that we get the hosting supplied free, but Chris (our admin) keeps his costs low by not allowing pictures. This means pictures you want to share need to be stored in a cloud based app like onedrive and then the forum post needs only contain the link to the picture to display it.
Depending on how we progress financially, it may be possible to look at paying to host pictures so at least you can simply paste them into posts. Or maybe we charge a subscription fee to people who want to do this.
It’s an open topic and one which is always under review.
Cheers, Richard

Re: We have a club Facebook group
I'd certainly be willing to pay a little for this convenience. Keeping it optional would maintain the forum as free for anyone to use, and anyone who doesn't feel like paying could continue with the current method.
It's certainly good to have a Facebook group given how important that has become, but I hope we mainly treat it as a shop window to the forum, and somewhere to post stuff that's more of passing interest (look how shiny my car looks today!) while the stuff of lasting value is posted here.
