I have had a look at TLF (worthy, but superficial) and Angus's .co.uk effort to derail .net and (tbh) they don't hold a candle to the archive we have here. Buttttt to my simple mind, setting up a LGT fb group SEEMS to be an extension of the sub-clique that has developed on here as a result of the spat with Angus, and yes, emphasises the SPLIT?
So, Peter, what do you suggest?
Take the previous TLF umbrella offer - assuming it will make THIS forum function as it should- esp. regarding picture posting. Then the current tlf excel/ecat/elite group are likely to take more notice of our resource and aggregate around it.

Otherwise the Fb 'outpost' battle just looks like the sour grapes split, it probably is.
The TLF offer is either to migrate our forum fully to the TLF elite/Eclat/excel forum or to host our forum as is. There would only be picture posting in this latter case for members paying a fee to TLF (that is, if it is technically feasible to differentiate fee paying and non fee paying members in phpbb). It costs money to host images due to bandwidth and storage costs.

Cheers, Richard

I guess the fbook thing has its uses but as someone just starting out on my restoration (SORN'd but not for long hopefully) this seems infinitely more useful! I may not have much expertise to contribute yet, but will be posting some pics once I get the OneDrive thing working and find everyone's enthusiasm for these gorgeous cars spurs me on!

The new Lotus Grand Tourers group. Further segmenting the limited number of owners into different cliques... or just requiring membership of multiple similar groups, often with the same people posting across different groups.

Richard, you know the background, you know why we felt we should set up our own group - given the history we all wish wasn’t there, what would you suggest?
Yes, I appreciate the history and why we have ended up here. I think it was a shame, but here we are and I support what we are doing now. I was just making a tongue-in-cheek joke about the situation. I appreciate that it's hard to get across the right tone of voice on a text forum, should have used one of these maybe :P :D

I started this thread because I suspected a migration onto fb but I can see I was wrong.
Its not for me (fb) but copying interesting stuff into here is going to keep the two group's together so well done for that, its progress.
Keep the humour up, I like that.

Ps, Dunc, you dont need any expertise to post, its just as interesting seeing what people are doing. The definition of an expert is; an 'ex' is a has been, and a 'spurt' is a drip under pressure.

I don't believe that is the case Richard.
I help run the LEC (Lotus Elan Central)...and we don't pay to post......
I am also a mod on TLF an dont believe we charge anyone other than commercial posters.......
even private car and parts sales are free......

if you tell me otherwise I shall contact Andy to find out more

My understanding from being a member of TLF for several years and from conversations with Bibs is that there is very limited image posting available to ‘free’ members with increased (unlimited?) image posting for paying members. I was under the impression that image posting on lotuselancentral is similar to this forum; it wouldn’t make commercial sense for Bibs to allow it for free when TLF members have to pay. However I’m willing to be corrected if I’m wrong!

Thanks, Richard

When I wanted to post more photos on TLF a couple of years ago the only way I could do it was by paying (which I didn't mind).

LEC is not part of the TLF......but merely a stand alone Web site on a server......we do not post on or through TLF.......most of the guys on LEC are not members........I think there must be some confusion here.....

Yes, lec might be on a different server to TLF but it is supported by the same people who presumably need to recover storage and bandwidth costs.

Anyway the bigger question is that, despite asking a while ago, nobody with IT skills has stepped forward to help with a migration to new servers. I had the time earlier this year but no longer do, so am trying to make the best of where we are and what we do have.

Thanks, Richard
