The main point is DO NOT USE DOT 5.0.

The cars were designed at a time which I think was before DOT 5.1, but that (5.1) would be my choice of fluid, you can mix it with 4.0 (so can use 5.1 without having to completely eliminate all 4.0).

Edit: I should say, that means changing it more frequently but that seems a small price to pay fore the better boiling point characteristics.

Go for the latest spec - has a higher boiling point and if you’re fully flushing through there won’t be enough of the old fluid in there to lower it, especially as I believe you’ve stripped the callipers. I use either Febi dot 4 plus - equivalent boiling point to 5.1 or 5.1 depending on what’s available at what price. Dot 4 and 5.1 are fully compatible with each other it’s the 5.0 that you need to avoid as said above as this is silicone based.

I'd also recommend 5.1 - as Andy & Alan say it has a higher boiling point than 4.0.
