Further thought. Normally the load on this shaft is quite low, only the oil pressure around the pump rotors.
Either a loose bolt with continued tapping, not likely, or a sudden blockage of the oil pump rotors from detritus.
Therefore it is worth having a good inspection of the rotors and their housing, more likely the housing may show some deep scouring.

Does anyone know what the torque settings are for the six oil pump bolts? I have done this before but can't find the info in my service notes. I used to have a paper copy but sold these in favour of an electronic copy so maybe I have a page missing. :roll:

7-8 lbs ft

Went to Lotusbits last Thursday and they sorted me out a replacement shaft, new pulley, bolt and washer. Also new seal and gaskets.

The housing is now back on the block and cam belt on. New filter and fresh oil in the car, just need to put the power steering and alternator belts back on and connect water pipes.
