I have recently rebuilt my LC engine and just at the point of firing up for the first time I found the throttle pedal jammed up which could have sent the revs on start-up to engine destruction.
I was in a bit of a jam as I had recently sold my house and needed to get the car out of the property
So out came the scalpel (Dremel small cutting disc) and I cut a hole just above where the cable passes the bulkhead into the cabin.
I found that the sleeving located over the inner cable had fractured and stopped the cable returning into the outer sheath. The throttle pedal, not being able to return to the normal position had then bent the cable upwards further thwarting any chance of returning.
I removed the offending sleeving which is normally adhered to the cable.
Thinks!! What if this had happened when driving?
So I suggest those of us with older cars (all of us) consider inspect their cables at this point, yes including cutting the access hole, as if you decide only to replace with a new cable you will have to cut the access hole, or book a course of six sessions with your physiotherapist.
