Oil Pressure warning light

For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

If it was anything to do with oil or coolant levels,I would expect it to be red.
That is a valid point.

My 86 se does not have that light or warning symbol. But I do know that some excels ended up with Esprit speedos with a higher top speed indicated (not the budgey smuggler type ). So I had a nosy on an esprit platform and some of those do have a warning light that has a weird system that goes thro a relay so it does not illuminate below 1600rpm. Just a thought, I wonder if your display bar is from an esprit cos it looks like they borrowed bits if they ran short and thats why there isnt any wiring.

Hmm... now I'm wondering... there's a wire coming out of the back of the lamp, but does it progress any further than the dashboard connection block? More investigation required...

Ok, I checked. The Orange+ White wire runs from the bulb, to the connector block, and then…. nothing. On the other side of the connector block there is no wire, just an empty hole.

So, that bulb does nothing, and has always done nothing. I’ll go with Bash’s suggestion that it was a feature from a different car that accidentally ended up on mine somehow.

Page 2 Section MH of the service manual clearly shows Lotus never used this lamp. There's labelling for every tell tale light except the middle on the right,
They obviously decided that whatever car they used this panel from, they just didn't need another fluid level light (I'd assume washer bottle).
This stacks up with Richards observation that there is no wire in the Lotus bespoke harness that feeds the panel.

Good to know we have a spare dash lamp. Making me think I might wire it to tell me when the cooling fans are running.
Or side lights on, but then a water level picture would be daft.
What goes together.... Must come apart.

Yeah, same in the owner's manual as well.
