Is doing an engine oil change easy?

Belts, Plugs, Filters, Fuels, Oils, additives etc..... Told you this might morph into servicing and service items.

Relatively straight-forward. The oil filter is under the airbox - it can be removed once the airbox cover is off, but may be easier if the trumpets are unbolted so you can remove the whole airbox.

P.S. - you'll find a lot of answers to common questions if you use the "search" option at the top of the page.

P.P.S. - try the link at the top of the page for access to the parts manual.

I have just today changed my oil about an hour job including an engine flush. I found if it is an in between service / oil change that a fluid extractor from screw fix makes life a lot easier (less mess) though I like to take the sump plug out every 12000 miles to check that there is nothing unexpected in the oil.

Do you drain the oil cooler after using the flushing oil? That's what puts me off of putting anything other than a decent oil in the filler cap!!

Yes i did drain using the fluid extractor diconecting one of the pipes then feeding the extractor in. The first time I flushed the system it made an amazing difference cooler and less tappet noise and seemed to be a bit faster.

Many thanks for your help on this thread. I wont flush the engine through this time round - but will get to grips with a straight forward oil change draining from the sump!

I now have a 'manual' online link from dpryder. Will ask if he doesnt mind me reposting it.

Take care that you get a good grip on the oil sump plug before you are trying to turn it...its made of brass and will round if it sits tight and you do not have a good grip on it...see other thread for reference...

Hi ?,

Yes very simple job, all you need are the right tools and a bit of time.

Give me a couple of days and I'll do a 'how to' .

Steve

PS. If I've not done it by err, say Thursday, just give the thread a bump
