Both cars do look really good... I think the all black is very effective.

Outside of the theoretical effects of changing the offset, what is it like in the real world? I imagine you have driven plenty of standard excels working for Lotusbits? I like the idea of having modern wheels on mine, with a tyre size that is easier to get.

As for the chop top in the other thread... I think I have a roof for you! (see third picture down) :P

You could have a two-tone coloured Excel...

hummn... that shell... had either been chopped about and glasses back or it was possibly a preproduction one... what was the reg and/or year?!... dont say 81 or early 82...!!!

the offset i have chosen is somewhere between the standard 15" speedline and the later oz (neerer the latter) which are obiously production wheels and so the loadings on bearings and bushes have been exploored...

in theory if you have OZ's on you will wear bushes and bearings out more quickly than the speedlines because there pushed out further from the centreline. and therefor will be causing more stress, but in real terms this will be neglagible, and aslong as the wheels you fit are lighter than standard your unsprung mass will be decreased and your car will handle better... as for tyres we i recomend going to 205's all round on daily drivers, although lotus recomend 205 front and 225 rear, but as many of us know big tyres dont work verry well when you have a relitivly light car on standing water... (new underware required...)

It was an 1983 model on an "A" plate.

The shell was very badly damaged and then poorly repaired in its past. There was a large spilt in the right rear quarter panel, the boot was all smashed in, and the front bumper had been permanently fixed to the wings.

What makes you think it may be unusual?

Do they? I must have missed that. Has anyone any experience/comments with 205 front / 225 rear combination?

Both wheels look good, maybe the MO's would look good in black too.

Hi!
This is a picture of my car, from our first exhitition this spring. The wheels are German manufactured CR7x17 in front and 9,5x17 at rear with sportrac 2 215/40ZR17 ultrac 235/40ZR17 Vredstein tires. I think that they are looking good on this car! The car is a fully equipped SE from -87.

Nice wheels, have you specs for offset of wheels compared with original lotus wheels. Any ideas of UK suppliers ?

Receipt for those wheels

Post by smithersoli »

If you want the original receipt and info regarding those white MO's I bought the car off Guy Mac and have them in the history file. No good too me although am very disappointed he sold the wheels before i got the car!

I cant remember seeing anything about a custom offset, it looks like they were supplied as a standard size, but not too sure it would anyway!
