For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Headlight switch

Post by pompey ice »

Hi all, has anyone had the pleasure/pain of removing the two position light switch [sides & headlights ] ,this is for the early 1983 eclat excel ,situated on the dashboard. I have managed to get the bottom part of the switch out about 1/4 inch but no joy with the top half and the switch next door is exactly the same ,would i be right in assuming there is a hidden catch for the top half tucked away inside or do i apply a bit of old fashioned BRUTE force ..

Any pointers would be highly appreciated , thanks , IAN

Looking at the parts manual diagram - there is a clip which completely surrounds the rear of each switch to hold it in place.

I suspect that if you do use brute force, you'll get the switch out and probably hear the "tinkle" of the clip falling deep into the bowels of the console gubbins....

best way to get it out with out dammage is to remove the pannel, but that in its self can be a "task"... why do you need to remove it?

HI , in the past if i just work the switch gently/slowly the offside lamp only would come up, but flicking the switch harder with more force the two would pop up [thats second position only ] but now only the one comes up, to me it sounds like a dirty or burnt contact ,i have had the motor out cleaned up and put decent brushes in and it works when you turn by hand . I dont realy want to take the front panel off if i can help it but if needs must, perhaps you know a few tips you could pass on ?

Many thanks for your help to date IAN
