Last Thursday I had the pleasure of fellow forum member 'Tonycharente' visit me in his immaculate Calypso Red 89 SE. Tony has been a great help & encouragement to me while I've been getting my car back on the road and fit to register in the French system. Tony lives some 90Km from me, so it was quite an event to have two Excels together in the Charente! I wonder if there are any more in the department? There is another SE much closer - 'Robc' on the forum - just over the border in the Limousin - whom I met up with at our local race track - the Val de Vienne - a few weeks ago, but he was driving his track car not his Excel.
Merry Christmas to all!

Re: A very small meeting of Excels in France
I've been thinking about a trip to see my dad in the south of France next year and I was going to post about what spares to take on such a journey? I can research the legal requirements like bulbs & reflective jackets but wonder what small items it makes sense to take e.g. plugs, fuses, wiper blade, relays etc. Throttle and/or speedo cable? Spare engine?
If anyone has such a list (Angus?) I would be interested to see it.

All I've ever taken is the legal requirements (bulbs, high vis, fire extinguisher) some fuses, relays and my own toolkit - no room for anything else once SWMBO has filled the boot with shoes....hodders wrote:I've been thinking about a trip to see my dad in the south of France next year and I was going to post about what spares to take on such a journey? Proper service before setting off and some sensible checks at the start of each day (fluids, tyres).
The only times I've had trouble when touring have been down to user error, the car itself has never developed a fault without my intervention.
I'm up for another French outing - haven't been out of the country since September!

Not for me - too commercial and not an event for real enthusiasts any more - too much about beer and doughnuts (and not the sort you get from the baker either) in the car parks & camp sites.chrisw2811 wrote:How about in July ? http://www.lemansrace.com/news.html?id=30

Re: A very small meeting of Excels in France
Angus has a point. We camped at Bleu Nord for the 2008 Classic next to a section of the club track. Most people drove sensibly on the track, but there were some idiots who just had to show how fast/noisy their car was. There were a few serious incidents, including a case in which an AC Cobra (or copy) was started late at night by the owner, who had left it in reverse. The vehicle reversed over the tent behind it and seriously injured a child. Fortunately a concrete wall stopped it doing further harm, but I'm very pleased we were a safe distance away.
