Indicators and Hazards
No indicators, no hazards - no noise from the relay areas - what should I be looking for to diagnose the problem - (the fuses in the fuse box are all good) All thoughts appreciated!

Re: Indicators and Hazards
Hi,
looking at the manual, there are 2 relays for the hazards /flasher. 1 does the hazard lamps and the other is the flasher / hazard relay. Probably the latter if both not working.
The flasher /hazard relay is the 5th from the back on the left hand side of the relay rack under the steering/dash cover.
Hazard lamp relay is the 4th from the back.
Hope this helps

Re: Indicators and Hazards
Hi,
My excel 83 model "narrow body" the indicators decided to stop working fuses and relays checked OK, turned out the plastic bridge "for want of a better term" inside the switch broke probably from a combination of age and heat.
Replaced the switch and everything back to normal "good luck"
The wiring is different depending on the age of your car.

Re: Indicators and Hazards
Gracie - for electrical issues, we really need to know the year of the car. There's a huge difference between early and late model wiring, relays, motors etc.

Re: Indicators and Hazards
OK - for an 87 SA, the relays in question are in the driver's footwell. ttedj has identified them already - I'd recommend checking them both in case they have corroded internally (quite a common problem - it's worth replacing most of the relays periodically and carrying a couple of spares). Make sure you get the correct type though (check the markings around the blades).

Re: Indicators and Hazards
Following Ted's guidance I've now had a good look at the relay bank. I switched the smaller Hazard tell tale drop out relay with the side lamp relay - since both appeared to be the same unit. The indicators/hazards still do not work, but with the indicator relay in the side lamp slot, the side lamps work fine; so i am surmising the relay from the indicator slot is fine. The next option seems to be the hazard/turn flasher unit which is next to the relay (rather than beinga relay itself) so to test this methinks i will need to buy a new flasher unit - any guidance on a source of such a unit would be appreciated. apologies this is so basic but auto electics are no my strong point! Re: Indicators and Hazards
Update - changed the flasher unit and the relay, but still no sign of life. Both units appeared dry and no sign of rust so any ideas where i go next, i will follow up on Ken's idea re the swtich - but where it the switch exactly!?

Re: Indicators and Hazards
Further update, but still not solved the problem. The switchgear looks fine; however i have noticed something odd with the flasher unit and maybe i have a defective/incorrect unit. When the hazards are turned on i can hear ,and feel, the flasher unit 'clicking' but no lights; this does not happen when the indicator stalk is turned on and off (it also happens when the appropriate fuse is taken in/out. This does not happen when the original flasher unit is put back in. Any thoughts??
