My Lucas engine speed limiter has failed. The engine speed was hard cutting at very low revs, sometimes even preventing gentle launch of the car, and even prevented starting on occasion.
I am guessing that these devices are quite rare now, and with advances in electronics I am guessing that there may be better non-standard devices available.
I have heard of Omex and Lumenition, but would like to know what people experience are with aftermarket rev limiters. I would prefer a device that can live in the engine bay, ideally in a similar location to the original.
Thanks in advance for any advice

To get you by, just unplug the limiter. Then just don't get too close to 7k rpm and all will be fine. You can then source one over a longer period of time.

I use the omex rev limiter with shifty change light..supperb, easy to fit and sits in the endine bay next to the bonnet catch on the off side....................i personaly wouldnt run without one other than to test her, especially if you have mats in the car.......Wedge_Lover wrote:My Lucas engine speed limiter has failed. Re: Non-Standard Engine Speed/Rev Limiters for Lotus Excel
I used the Omex Clubman single coil limiter on the Clan but installed mine in the cabin although the instructions do not exclude installation in the engine bay so you'd be OK as MrcoolA has already confirmed. Worked well in either soft or hard cut modes, easy to set, no problems.
Only removed it to make way for mapped ignition which also has both soft and hard cuts which you can use one after 'tother.
Kept the Omex to install in the Lotus when the OEM limiter eventually fails (still works fine ATM).
