Re: Weird starting problem
Kev before fitting the valve make sure it works, mine was sticking occasionally not helpful, also you might find the captive nuts it is supposed to bolt to will be spinning freely, mine are and I will have to cut the bolts to get it out. Cheers Keith

Re: Weird starting problem
I seem to remember the captive nuts are aluminium Rivnuts - I'm sure they protrude through the fibreglass just behind the diff. You should be able to get some pliers on them to remove the bolts and maybe even fix them better to the fibreglass by re-tightening the bolt into the Rivnut while holding the far side of it, or use a Rivnut-setting tool.

Just had a look under the car - the captive nuts are Rivnuts but you cannot get to the 'far' side of them because the chassis is too close
. The only way to make them more secure would be with a Rivnut setting tool.

Re: Weird starting problem
Thanks for the advice chaps. Mounting the unit was no problem as I had some set screws that fitted straight into the rivnuts.

So.....when replacing the fuel lines today found that the "flowlock valve" had completely rotten through......had no idea what a flowlock valve was hence a topic search which brought me here!
So just to clarify, this valve is just to stop gravitational fuelling of the carbs when the ignition is off right? (When I looked at it first thought it was something to do with stopping the fuel supply after a collision)
So, this part is a must-have then?? Do all carb cars have them? Any info or suggestions of a source ot new items appreciated.

Re: Weird starting problem
I can't see why the Elite flowlock should cost more when it is surely identical in operation to the cheaper Excel one. After all, it's just a couple of electrical connections and an in and out for the fuel. No doubt one of the specialist suppliers could advise you. Maybe the price difference is just because the Elite flowlock is becoming scarce.
ps Don't use ptfe tape on the connections. I experimented with a small piece and found it dissolves in petrol.
