Speedo - clicked a lot and then stopped

Post by iangotts »

Any thoughts. Driving back last night the speedo clicked and the needle wobbled, and it got faster as the speed increased. And then it stopped and the speedo is showing 0MPH. Is this failure of the cable, or the sound of it coming off the back of the dial?

I cannot see that i can get to the back of the speedo by lying upside down in the footwell. Does this require me taking the dash out?

Thanks in advance

Yeah real easy job lower the steering wheel take out the 4 dash screws holding the wood veneer then the 4 screws holding the dash, pull out the instrument panel check the speedo cable is securely fixed into the back of the speedometer if it is unscrew it and go for a short safe drive and see if the spindle in the middle of the cable turns. If it doesn't which I suspect it wont check gearbox end but I think you will need a new cable as I did.

in side the speedo it's self is a small spring that come unseated, if you can get in to the speedo a small drop of super glue will sort it........

I have tried changing/Oiling the cable and to know avail, so luckily got a brand new speedo cheap changed that all now works fine,,,,,,,,,,,
