Brass seat tip knobs

Post by KevW »

I've always disliked the standard wooden seat kobs on the Excel but wanted to replace them with something in keeping with the rest of the car.

I decided to fit a couple of brass knobs intended for electric guitars. They cost under £6 a pair including delivery and come in chrome, brass or black finish. I think their knurled design is more in keeping with a sportscar than the wooden kobs which to me look as if they come from a cheap bedside cabinet. Rather than remove the metal sleeve from the seat tip lever that the standard wooden knob pushes onto I left it in place and enlarged the mounting hole on the new knobs with a no.8 drill bit. The new kobs are secured with a grub screw.

Nice work Kev, and less work to fit than the supposedly 'made for the job' aluminium ones I bought from Lotus Bits (not to mention considerably cheaper)

Thanks Shaun. I suppose with the Lotusbits knobs you are paying for them being beautifully turned from aluminium.

I don't mind the wooden drawer knobs, but I like those too. Not a fan of shiny aluminium accessories in older cars though many people see them as an improvement. When I read the thread title I shuddered as I thought it was going to be the next step on from alloy tat! ;

I bought these "knobs" following the first post and very impressed with the quality of them and speed of delivery.

I clicked to buy 2 without realising that they are already packaged in pairs......so I have a pair left over.

If anyone would like the "spare pair", they're yours for £3 (paid by sending me £3 in stamps).

Only one pair so please PM me if you're interested and I'll pm my address. First come first served !!

Cheers
