Clutch fork and release bearing hub/carrier wanted.

Post by lotusspares »

Does anyone have a good, unworn clutch fork and the release bearing hub / carrier with the clips please? My Excel is a 1992 SE and the clips have obviously disintegrated, or just weren't put back on the car when the clutch was last done and the carrier has got free and turned 90 degrees. The fork has then pushed through the back plate of the release bearing causing a lot of fused metal and loads of smoke when the car was running! The fork has holes through it and the release bearing is fused to the carrier! Oh joy!
That means that my slave cylinder might not have been at fault if anyone is looking for one - I've bought a new one!
Cheers in anticipation!

Matt,
I had exactly the same issue. The bearing carrier should have 2 flats to stop it spinning on the clutch fork - the clips are to hold the fork in contact. I added a blob of weld to the carrier edges where it had rounded off and then filed flat again. It has been fine for 15k. I did get a new clutch fork however from Lotus bits - they will be able to supply both.

I have contacted Lotusbits but I don't usually get a reply!!
I did not find any clips when I took the gearbox off and don't think they were put on when it was last changed!
My bearing carrier has had the fork almost by-passing it and the fork has worn gouges down the sides where it has moved forward and pushed into the release bearing - new one needed I'm afraid.
I will try Lotusbits again but as I say I don't find them all that helpful.

Thanks anyway,

Matt

Matt, I guess you've emailed Lotusbits. Try calling them as you are far more likely to get an answer the same day, generally during that call.

Sorry to hear you didn't get through to LB today. Probably because I was hogging the line :D Also, some of the staff have mondays off due to working saturdays . Try again and just in case you got the wrong number here is the one I use 01926633211
