speedo cable for Excel SA

Post by micha »

can anybody post a pic or a link where i can see both ends from the speedo-cable fitted to an Excel SA with cruise control? (the cable ends in the enginebay, near firewall at a kind of electronic transmitter)

my cable is only partially present. the gearbox side is missing.

The Speedo cable is made up of 2 parts. Starting at the dash end:
The first short run leaves the Speedo and stops at the Cruise control speed sensor, The second long run goes from the speed sensor (electronic transmitter?) round the engine and down to the gearbox as normally expected.

thanx for the video. unfortunately it doesnt show the gearbox-side (SA = automatic), which would be the important one for me.

do the well known lotus parts supliers have those cables in stock?

does the gearbox side differ from a manual to an automatic car?

2 piccys from down under.

First shows speedo cable coming down into the GB at just about centre of screen.

Second is the front left of the GB looking backwards showing electrical inhibit switch. Couldnt get any better shots as exhaust was in way

Well my Elite does have an SA chassis so I have the cruise control unit mounted near the firewall. I also had a cable made up to go direct from the speedo to the gearbox but was told upon presenting it that the engine/gearbox had to be at least partly removed in order to access the gearbox speedo drive.

If you could use a picture of the gearbox end of the cable then I can probably help with that.

I was offering to send you a picture of the gearbox end of the cable, but not the cruise control unit end - maybe my meaning got lost in translation. I did read and understand your original post. Your reply sounds a little terse!

I cant answer that, but as you are in Germany go down to BMW and ask them about their E30 3 series which had the same gearbox, shifter and cruise control system - i think

BMW, that might had been a good idea.....meanwhile its sorted:

here the story:
contacted ZF....they coudnt help.
i emailed to Sj sprts cars....and my email was never answered.
than i contacted again ZF, they checked which cars had been equipped with this type of gearbox and named me several car-manufacturers.

i went to VW, they asked me which gear i need (colour of the gear)...VW classic had it in stock....10,-€ , sorted.

Which colour is it? And is there a part number that others could quote in future?
