Guys
Just bought a new genuine Lotus air filter sealing rubber and then discovered that it doesn't fit the K+N filter we have for the car. Doh!
Paid £40 for it and I know I'm not going to get anywhere near that back, but does anyone need one? No point in it sitting here. Make me an offer.....
Cheers
John

Re: Air filter seal, new-genuine
If your K&N panel filter looks like this ..... then as you say, the Lotus OEM filter seal doesn't fit.

However .... if it looks like this.... then it should fit.

I made this mistake ..I bought the former, and wished I bought the latter - so the seal would fit!
Might be a better bet to track down a metal-framed K&N rather than ditch the new seal!

Re: Air filter seal, new-genuine
I was unable to locate the metal framed one so the one we have is the rubber type. I have devised a different seal mechanism because at £70 for a filter, it was cheaper to sacrifice the new seal, hence the sale!
Kind regards

Re: Air filter seal, new-genuine
The metal framed K&N is P/N 33-2784. It's the correct K&N for all Lotus 4-cyl 907/ 912/ 910 powered models from 1974 – on (Elite, Eclat, Excel, Esprit). The thick rubber seal is a direct fit over the rim, but a new one doesn't come with the filter. The seal is a Lotus part and sold separately, so you need to transfer the one you have from the old filter to the new one.
Unfortunately, K&N lists their rubber-framed #33-2011 for Lotus applications; however, it doesn’t fit properly. Avoid it. Owners buy it, not knowing the difference, and then have difficulties installing it. The molded elastomer frame is too thick for the Lotus seal to fit, and too thin to seal properly in the Lotus airbox without the seal. Even if the dedicated owner manages to deal with the seal issue, the 2011 filter is flexible and limp. It doesn’t want to hold it’s flat shape or stay in place in the airbox base while the cover is being installed. What should be a simple task becomes a 3-handed exercise in frustration.
Good luck,
Tim Engel
