Tyres for 14 inch wheels
Lola ('84 car) looks really good since her recent respray and interior refurb. I need now to focus on running gear and mechanical matters. She does wander alarmingly on uneven road surface and although there may be bushing issues I plan to start correction with the tyres themselves. The present tyres (205x60R14 88H Nexus) look ok but I am having to substantially over-inflate to give sidewall stiffness. These were probably fitted by AndyC or Fueltheburn in previous life though the car has since then stood for 2 years by a subsequent owner. I have been offered a set of old Goodyear Eagles but am uncomfortable with fitting used tyres. I don't want to increase wheel size which for me would spoil the car. Does anyone have experience of a suitable budget tyre brand given that this seems to be all that is available on these smaller wheels?

These would look the bees knees ...Classic tyres with raised white letters ..at a price (£184)!
225/60/14 would be OK for size/speedo error (within reason) and tread pattern is very much like the original Goodyear Eagles too!
....speed rating is low though

Otherwise I'd take a punt on 205/60/14 NanKangs if you want to speed over 112 mph.
Mind you, you're less likely to get away with speeding now there's all these 'blame and shame' evangelists equipped with dash cams.

Certainly look good. My understanding though is that there may be insurance/mot issues if under-rated tyres are used. Am I right on this?

That may well be the case ....but it wouldn't put me off tbh. But then I must admit I'm a born (calculated) risk-taker.Roadrunner wrote:Lotus-e-Clan wrote:..............................

I don't recommend the BFG Radial TA. I put a set on my Esprit S2 and had high hopes for them. What a disappointment. The degree to which those tires could not go around a corner was frightening. They look the part, but they don't perform.

Now that would put me off the idea given your experience ..all show and no go, hey?Esprit2 wrote:I don't recommend the BFG Radial TA. I put a set on my Esprit S2 and had high hopes for them. Also places a BIG question mark against the £184 price tag!

You are right, don't fit under-rated tyres without telling your insurance company who would class this as a notifiable "modification". If you didn't tell them they could, and no doubt happily would, declare your insurance null and void in the event of a claim. When I had to make a no fault claim on my last car I noticed the insurance assessor taking a good look at the tyres.Roadrunner wrote:Lotus-e-Clan wrote: Certainly look good.
