Door Water Ingress

Having installed new carpets I am now faced with taping up the window /body joint to avoid water ingress.
I see that SJSportscars offer a sound reducing strip, located at SJO75 U0023 Excel Body section and simply ask Forum members for their experiences of this trim as a water excluder.

I have also installed the 'Kev method' of door sealing - works a treat. I put new carpets in last year and added the seals as in Kev's thread - no leaks so far. Just replacing the window frame on the drivers side so will have to reinstall the self adhesive seal

I am going the Kev route and have ordered some 8mts of D-shaped trim, total cost to Spain 9.18 pounds.
I will report back when fixed.

The seal in your link has some extra ears on the base and is wider and deeper. This may make it better, or maybe too much. If you use this version please report back as at some time I need to do this to mine, but need to adjust/replace window frames first.

I have just ordered the trim which I see is what Kev finally used. It is a simple D section, no tails, and ebay number is 2328011. I had planned to fit it into the upper face of the window frame but will now follow Kev´s method. Once fitted I will report back.

As an aside, does the Forum have a way of recovering posts through some sort of listings. Kev´s post of 2016 gives me all I needed to know about water ingress? I know you can look through the Body and trim postings but now there are so many that it is time consuming to find a specific post which may not even exist. It is easier to create a new post and let Angus (and others) show us the relevant previous postings, and he/they has better things to do.

I find that the search function can be quite effective, once you work out which key phrase to use and remember that you can search within the results of the previous search.

I have had water getting on both doors for a while and I too tried a rubber seal glued into the top of the window frame which to be honest didn't cure it.

I had water both in-front of the seats and behind which led me to realise although I was reluctant to believe it that the water does indeed get into the door seals, and it is actually at the top of the door and it then tracks all the way down both sides and trickles in over the sills.

I have performed an experiment with some sealant, I firstly put a bead inside the door seal which I believe is a must anyway. and then once the door seal was refitted I put a bead all along the top of the seal between the roof and top of door. And some down each side . in fact I ran out of sealant about halfway down each side of each door.

we have had some excellent wet weather these last few weeks and yet my car is now dry.

The SJ075U0023 secondary seal is standard on the Esprit. When I bought the Excel my window frames were bad and I was convinced that the secondary seal was missing. I bought the new window frames from the club and the secondary seal from sj. I changed the internal door seal with another one slightly bigger but very soft (from an old Alfa Romeo)and following the instructions (Thanks Angus) I set the doors and the new frames so that they touch the internal door seal well in every part.
The secondary seal eliminates a lot of noise at high speeds, then improves the look of the car but it does not prevent the entry of water.(or prevent very little)
Unfortunately after a lot of work I still found water in the car. So I put the car under the water and I sat inside it. No drop of water came in from the door seals, but there was water on the bottom. I removed the door panels and I discovered that the water entered through the inspection caps of the inside door and from some screw of the glass motor. I sealed everything with silicone and now it's all perfect
