Found out today why my low level fuel light wasn't working!

The fuel delay module had been butchered by the PO.

Wires cut at entry to the PCB and 2 components wired between the output lines. Of these one leg was completely fractured at the tip of the ceramic coating. Fuse was also removed.

Unable to identify the 2 components so far - one is marked AX 3515 15 OHM SIGN 5% K-C. Other looks like a diode.

My delay module was broken and the light did not go on. Anyway it did not work well before, the light turned on often when the fuel gauge was 1/4.
I have changed it with a 1991 esprit delay module(I think it is the same like 1990 excel who have delay module under the steering wheel fuse box) now it works great, the light does not blink anymore and comes on at the right point.
The only problem is that you also have to change the module's support because it's different and the new module does not go all the way, when you remove it you'll understand why
the old right number is A86694 the light turns on after 20 seconds
the esprit number is C089M6330F the light turns on after 25 secods

These are the layers of old lining. Do I need something else. (not using the board method at the moment)



The lower 'white ' layer has CAAF 52432 printed right across the back. Looks like a form of dampening.

Well, by no means concours standard, but 10/10 for effort. I'm pleased I got it back together. A few screws; nuts and bolts left over so I'll put them in the bottom drawer with the rest for next time. Error made with the side cap hanger being put on upside down so had to unpick the lining and re-rivet. The rivets of course needed to be under the material And of course it didnt go back as tidy as it was

Stu, I can't find where you posted about hesitation/stalling in your SA when trying to pull away.

I found this thread which includes some input from Garry Kemp in the Archived section: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=598

The thread talks about the later standard cars driving dreadfully at low revs (due to emissions regulations) and dealers changing idle jets at the first service in order to restore low speed driveability.

On a more general note, Garry Kemp suggests moving to a 107 inlet cam to boost low end power, and also perhaps changing exhaust valve timing to 110 degrees. This does rob top end power but how often do you use that in an SA? I don't!

The thing that puzzles me is that it is intermittent and I cant replicate it on demand
