Re: Value your Excel if you dare!
I think we vastly underestimate the value of our cars when I tell people I think mines worth around 8 to 9k I get shocked looks & you have got to be joking thought it would be a lot more than that.. Would not part with mine anyway but has to be worth 8k minimum..I paid 5k in 2016 have done a lot of work on it & want a viking burial in it Thats what I tell my lads to stop them arguing over who has it when I pop my clogs ....

Re: Value your Excel if you dare!
Interesting that this thread is about now as we were discussing this very issue in the pub the other night.
Well I wouldn't sell my 87 SA for anything less than £20k - £25k and even at that value I would still be quite reluctant to sell. Am I correct in thinking that there were only nineteen SA's made? Not that this makes it actually worth that value to anyone other than me. This value is based on what I think it would cost me to buy another and pay various different specialists to do the restoration process for me this time.
However this is purely academic as I have no intention of selling, ever.

No that's quiet low. The Service note chassis range covers 129NickC wrote:.... Am I correct in thinking that there were only nineteen SA's made?...

I've got an early narrow body Éclat Excel. She's about number 77 by Vin and rolled off the Hethel line on 7th January 83 (Lotus records) and first registered in April 83. She's also finished in Calypso red, in good condition and driven regularly. I think I've also under valued my car and it's rarity.

I paid AD$19K in Australia for an 85 Excel with good paint and leather interior but now needing engine work. Shannons Insurance agreed with that valuation.

SA numbers.
When I was sadder, so much sadder than I am today, at the time I was looking for my first Excel I started keeping copies of the adverts in Auto trader , E&M etc (pre on the line). Then I started keeping the photos in adverts and then in the blogs / restos etc to motivate me to fix things on my car (okay to take it to Anstrurther to get things fixed on my car) . While I was looking to see how many blue Elites I had pictures of (separate post) I came accross an Excel file from 2005 which listed 41 SAs by year/ colour/ regn / interior etc. but I think there were more. Interestingly or not 6 of them were in Japan.

Re: Value your Excel if you dare!
My Excel is probably difficult to value, but here goes.
Main thing is the Lexus engine conversion on throttle bodies.
Alloy radiator,
New Pax shox all round.
Most suspension polybushed.
Upgraded Hispec front brakes.
Retrimmed leather interior.
Very light servoed clutch (dodgy left ankle...)
Needs paint.
So I would say £12K as is. Anyone interested?

Re: Value your Excel if you dare!
Interesting values, probably more than I thought. You are all right to value a bit higher though due to the nature of costly fibreglass repairs. I think I will up my agreed value at next insurance renewal. Mine is an 82 excel vin 1148 which makes it about 4th or 5th one made I think. Bodywork is pretty good and engine seems fine, interior is complete but tatty, but a new carpet set and a couple of new window frames would really set it off. I insured it for 6.5k last year but maybe should be higher.

Insurance co's often look in magazines for values when it comes to total loss payouts. Sooo, the higher the advertised prices.....

Interesting - advertised as a 1989 car, and was indeed registered in April 1989, but it is not an 1989 car, not even MY89.bash wrote:spotted this.

It has Wickens badges, Also check the wheels, the bonnet vent and the front air intake.

Re: Value your Excel if you dare!
Must have been some sort of press car or demonstrator as was listed as owned by Lotus and if the blurb is correct the only one in that colour. Which I like BTW.
MY87 I think so would have sat on the shelf a while before being registered.

Re: Value your Excel if you dare!
This car might have been the only Champagne gold built that year. I don’t think it’s the only champagne gold car built though. Wasn’t the second to last or last car (which this isn’t as it the wrong spec) Champagne Gold? The factory could probably confirm for certain.I’ve seen several gold Excels over the years. In fact I think Lotusbits have two at the moment in bits. It does look a tidy example though.
