Driver's Seat Base Rubber

The rubber base to my driver's seat appears to have failed entirely! Which may explain why I now have adequate head-room, when once it was quite tight...

Anyone got a better suggestion than cutting up a rubber doormat? Or trusting to duct tape to hold the old one together (and possibly swapping it to the passenger side, where it'll see less work).

It seems to be rubber across most of the width, but has fabric moulded into it at the edges that then protrudes, so clearly a bespoke item, but possibly not exclusive to Excel?

I’m pretty sure it is unique to the Excel.

I was looking at a repair on mine before buying another interior. My plan was to get some rubber sheet about 2mm thick and folding it so retains the steel rod and then bonding to top and bottom of the original rubber if that makes sense? So sort of sandwiching the original rubber between the new rubber sheet.

I redid my drivers side one - some details are in my build thread - but have not rebuilt the seat as it still need leather work, so is untested. I think they are properly called "seat suspension" but trying to find the exact same size would be challenging! I believe it's also possible to use the wavy chair springs, or maybe even webbing. The webbing clips don't work with the rubber - tried that!

The original trim supplier in Norfolk is very helpful (Sorry, I can't remember the name!) He sold me a new old stock one last year.

As an option have a look at Woolies Trim Pirelli Webbing which is a rubber strip with 10% extendability which you can use to reinforce your existing rubber sheet.
