‘84 Excel
Hi all,
I picked up an ‘84 Excel about a month ago and I’ve been going through it since sorting all the little niggles- I have to say I’m really enjoying it! I’m a massive Lotus fan and had an Elise in the past, pre kids! This forum has been invaluable, so thank you all for the knowledge shared.
Cheers, Keith

Looks great Keith! Welcome to the forum! I think the early Excels are probably my favourites

Re: ‘84 Excel
Agree with Pete, the early narrow-bodied Excels look right. Especially with those wheels ( 14 inch Toyota black and silver cross ones also work well with the design).
Would be interested to hear how you think the Elise compares to the Excel performance-wise. I once chased an early Elise in my 89SE and he couldn't shake me off on either cornering or accelleration... but then it's easier to be the hunter rather than the hunted! The Elise S1 was on my wanted list for a while but I'd have to part with either the Excel or the Clan and I cannot bring myself to part with either ... too much of me in them!
Welcome to the Forum.

Re: ‘84 Excel
Hi Peter,
The Elise I had was a ‘98 S1, the steering feel was fantastic, and the feeling of grip was amazing- I think that they are criticised for being snappy once the rear grip is overcome, but on the road that limit is high!
For a 4 seater “older” car the Excel is very nice indeed to drive, with similar steering feel, I haven’t really pushed it yet round the corners

Your car looks to be in lovely condition, worth checking the age of the tyres before you push it too hard around the corners!
Out of interest is this the one off EBay? If so my number plate is A705 HLH so closely related to yours!
Cheers Chris

Re: ‘84 Excel
Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Hi Chris, the reg of yours is very close isn’t it! I’d love to see yours, is it a similar spec? I saw this one on the car and classic site, was fairly close for me to have a look.

Externally my car is identical, the interior is red what colour is yours? I live in Gloucestershire so not a million miles away, we should get a photo of them both together!

Re: ‘84 Excel
Please do and add it to the calendar page - that would make a good picture if you can find a good background.
