That's massive. Bit of history makes it desirable.

Is that the mark for the marque now?

I've read that it wasn't (isn't?) in particularly good condition needing refreshing at least.

From what I've heard about it, "refreshing" is a significant understatement.

Our Lotus Tourers have had some distinguished owners, not just Racing Drivers.
Besides Ronnie Peterson and Ayrton Senna I know that Carlos Reutemann had one.
Of lesser fame, Laurie Cunningham of football fame had a blue Elite while in Madrid (ex Real Madrid).

Who else of fame had a Lotus Tourer?

Dave the cog.

I'm reading Tony Rudd's autobiography at the moment and he mentions having an Excel. He left the factory one day with the windows down and a recording of a BRM v16 engine playing very loudly on the cassette player! Turned a few heads!

My Elite’s first owner was famous - or notorious! - in his time but is forgotten now - Sir John Junor (JJ) who was Editor of the Sunday Express. I have one of the original keys with JJ etched into the plastic, as well as the original owners handbook with his name in it. He was a confidant of Margaret Thatcher and was regularly lampooned in Private Eye.

Another famous ‘owner’ was Roy of the Rovers - a comic strip football manager in the 70s. I have a scan of it somewhere but can’t find it - will post when I can.

Cheers, Richard

Richard I can't wait to see the picture of Roy of the Rovers with an Elite! I had that comic delivered as a kid.

Great find - the Elite issue is the one I have, the Eclat issue is new - but is it an Eclat? It has Esprit headlights!

Cheers, Richard

Perhaps not as famous as the examples above but Steve Miller, who was Cosworth's chief engineer on their Indycar engines and went on to be managing director of Ilmor, used to drive his maroon Elite to work now and then.

Also, the managing director of Lunaz, a company that converts high-end classic cars such as Rolls-Royces and Bentleys to electric power, used to have an Elite.
