The wind noise stopped on mine when I fitted Esprit outer door seals.

Window profile must be the same as they fit nicely into the channel.
Gotta wonder why Lotus didn't fit them originally.

probably the same reason they fitted the rear spats and big spoiler... so the exprit was better than the excel

Woolies door seals 226A

Hi,

Looking for some advice. I've spent a couple of hours fitting new seal from Woolies and I'm finding it a little difficult as the "U" channel doesn't seem wide enough. When I push it on and tap it down the channel splays a lot and stops gripping the door opening flange.

I've left the car with the door closed hoping that when the mastic dries it will hold it all in place but this seems a bit hit and miss to me.

Any other advice from owners who have done this job before ?

I also replaced the boot seal today and that task went well, no where near as troublesome as the door seals.

Mine went staight on.

The only trouble I had was, on the first bit. If I took it off and tried to reseat it didn't fit as tightly.

Atfer that I made sure the mastic was in and the tape ready before I started to run it around the door edge.

Did the passenger door today and must say I'm disappointed with the results using Woolies 226A and Sikaflex (stickiest stuff I know)

The seal is catching at the bottom of the door and at the door catch area when I shut the doors, should I try another Woolies seal or just get genuine Lotus seals. Are Lotus seals still available ?

Be careful you get the correct Lotus seals. Since this is a manufacturing error you can't tell by part number, only when you fit it. Two years ago I bought two from Paul Matty, and one was about 3 inches too long. I returned the long one (Paul Matty were excellent about returning it) and the correct length seals fitted perfectly.

They were a bit tight on passanger side of mine when fitted.
Big bubble, but soon compressed in.

What do you use to bond the ends of the seal where it meets at right angles in the top corner of the door opening.

Also, in my original seal, there are numerous drainage holes put in. Do you have to punch some holes in the right places in the Woolies seals?

Made mine 'join' three quarters of the way down the vertical edge to avoid the corner join problem. Some black mastic sealer seems to make a good join. One or two holes along the bottom horisontal edge should be ok - it's more for allowing the air to come and go when the collapsible bead is compressed rather than for draining any water... er, hopefully that is!

Seal questions

Woolies seal appear to be good quality, they have drain holes already punched, joining at the top corner is a matter of cutting the U-channel at 45 degrees but leaving the round rubber tube extending beyond the cut.

Once you've got them on then superglue and cut the excess thru a 45 degree angel and it should work.

Having said that I'm off to see how much new lotus seals cost as the woolies seals (226a) are too fat and are catching on the doors and pulling off despite being bonded on with Sikaflex, maybe I should have bought plain 226.

anyone else used plain 226 ?

 if the door seals are intact just flattened with age ,and the bubble hole is say half inch ,buy some soft plastic pipe approximately 3/8 inch and feed this down the hole to expand the seal once more, obviously it would be easiest to remove the seal and maybe use some of the fair ladies talc [or some of your own secret hoard] i did buy some of this pipe once at the aquarium section in a store ,i was going to finish off with a cheepskate emoticon but this will have to do
